We are a small Norwegian brand that offers a carefully selected assortment of yarn, made for those who love to knit. From soft merino wool and brushed alpaca to organic cotton and mohair, in the finest colors.
With us you will find yarn that is not only ethically produced, but also mulesing-free, and we are proud of several environmental certifications such as GOTS, RWS, RMS and Oeko-Tex Standard 100. We believe in knitting as a creative, sustainable and fun activity – whether you are a beginner or an experienced knitter. HipKnitShop was started by Catharina Ilstad, a former specialist nurse at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, who today runs HipKnit full-time. Based in Bodø with her husband and three children, Catharina finds daily inspiration in her home, and the children who are filled with creativity and imagination. She is committed to making knitting fun and wants to inspire others to be creative through yarn, color choices and knitting designs.
The idea for HipKnitShop originally came from Catharina's childhood, where she found great inspiration in her mother's closet. There hung colorful 80s sweaters, knitted freehand - garments that are rare to find in stores today, but which radiated joy and creative freedom. It was these sweaters that inspired Catharina to learn to knit, and today she wants to share that joy with others.
HipKnitShop has something for everyone – whether you're looking for vibrant colors and fluff, or if you're looking for classic everyday sweaters in neutral colors and timeless structures. We believe in a good balance, offering both the colorful 80s vibes and the simple, stylish pieces that are suitable for every occasion.
Since the start, HipKnitShop has grown, and we are now several employees who share Catharina's passion for yarn, quality and sustainability. We are proud to ship yarn to customers across continents and have several retailers in different parts of the world.
