Description
PARADISE CARDIGAN KIDS KNITTING PATTERN
Knitted cardigan for children with stripes. A cute, soft, and fluffy dream cardigan for kids. Worked top-down – you begin by casting on stitches for the back piece, which is worked back and forth until the armholes are complete. The left and right front pieces are knitted from the cast-on edge of the back. The front and back pieces are then joined and knitted in one piece to the desired length. Sleeves are worked top-down.
A simple knitting pattern well-suited for beginners. The cardigan is long, roomy in size with slightly wide sleeves. Combine your favorite colors or use the beautiful colors we’ve put together in this version for inspiration. The model shown is 5 years old wearing size 6 years, using 6 different colors: 1: Candy Pop Pink, 2: Lemonade, 3: Purple Jam, 4: Must Have Mint, 5: Lilac Breeze, 6: Baby Blues.
SIZE AND MEASUREMENTS
2 (4) 6 (8) 10 (12) years
Chest width: 68 (74) 78 (83) 86 (91) cm
Length: 46 (48) 51 (53) 55 (58) cm or desired length
Sleeves: 31 (34) 37 (40) 42 (44) cm or desired length
Positive ease is approx. +20–25 cm from chest measurement for a relaxed fit. For example, if the child measures 70 cm around the chest (or widest point of the upper body), size 4–5 years would fit best (21 cm of positive ease). Choose size based on chest measurement and adjust sleeve/body length to fit the child.
YARN AND SUPPLIES
2 (4) 6 (8) 10 (12) years
Fluff Mohair: 5 (6) 6 (7) 7 (8) different colors, 1 ball of each. Feel free to use fewer colors, 2 balls of the color(s) you want to knit more with. (Approx. yarn usage: size 4 years – 25g of each color; size 8 years – 35–40g)
Suggested needles: 5 mm circular needles (40 and 60 cm), double-pointed needles.
7 mm circular needles (40 and 80 cm), double-pointed needles.
If you knit using the Magic Loop method, you do not need double-pointed needles.
You will also need a tapestry needle for weaving in ends, scissors, and a measuring tape.
You can substitute 1 strand of Fluff Mohair with 4 strands of Hip Mohair. This will give the same gauge and a wide range of colors. Several colors are available in both Fluff and Hip Mohair, so you can substitute if a desired Fluff color is out of stock. If you choose to use Hip Mohair for stripes, you will need 1 extra ball. When knitting with 4 strands of Hip Mohair, you can either use both ends of 2 balls or divide 1 ball into 4 smaller ones.
Gauge: 14 stitches x 19 rows = 10 x 10 cm on 7 mm needles.
